Race report from Donington: ????????????
We were out this weekend with the @classicsportscarclub_, 2x BMW Championship races and a pair longer pit stop races in the Slicks series and New Millennium too.
BMW qualifying was truncated by red flags and rain, but we put it on the front row next to Niall Bradley. In race 1, Nathan hung it round the outside into the first corner and got the move done, and then was leading pretty comfortably setting some fast laptimes. Unfortunately, five minutes from the end, brake failure into Redgate. Second year in a row, we couldn’t believe it. DNF, nil points.
The second race was a salvage job starting at the back. Nathan got it up to P5 in the end, but we were pretty gutted. We ran out of time to join the epic fight at the front.
However, it’s fair to say things improved thereafter! In Slicks, we were a solid P5 on a very, very quick grid (including a certain Mr Colin Turkington in Mark Smith’s car!). But the race was wet, which levelled things up a bit with the Lambo, Porsches etc. Nathan was leading by lap 2, and never looked back. "One of the best races ever driven, if I do say so myself" said Nathan, and he bagged the overall win ????.
New Millennium was likely to be DigiPlat/Wells versus Amspeed/Turkington, particularly after Raj Yeomans went lawn mowing on lap one. Nathan got past the Amspeed E36 at turn one and built a big enough lead to defend from Turkington after the pitstops. Not without drama though, as a few backmarkers seemed intent on taking us out as we lapped them and Nathan had overheating brakes after the ducts filled with grass. But we nursed it home for another really good win. ????
So a mixed bag in terms of luck and results, but overall a successful weekend. We can’t wait for Spa in 3 weeks!!
