Race report from Silverstone:
Three races, three wins at Silverstone for our last CSCC event of the year. 2x class wins in Slicks, and an overall win in BMWs.
Slicks qualifying was a bit of a waste of time with 60+ cars on circuit, but we ended up on class pole and 9th overall. Insane grid of cars in Slicks this weekend, we've never seen such an array of fast machinery (including Lamborghini Super Trofeos, Porsche Cup Cars, a GT3 M4, a Mosler, a KTM GT2, and plenty more besides).
BMW qualifying was better, with us posting a 2:10.15 to take pole position by over a second.
The first Slicks race was good fun; we harassed and annoyed some of the cars in faster classes, getting into the top 5 after the first corner, but soon dropped down the order. Finished P1 in class, 11th overall.
The BMW race was the main focus for us. Everything started well, but we couldn’t shake NB47 Racing's Niall Bradley off our tail and the gap hovered between 1.5 and 2.5 seconds for the first 25 minutes of the 40 minute race. The gearbox was overheating at this point, and then the ABS failed… a couple of slow laps while that was sorted out saw Niall right on our tail. Then unfortunately Nathan made a small error lapping a back marker and got pushed out off the circuit, which gave Niall a run.
The laps that followed were some of the most intense racing we’ve been involved in, and a great advert for the championship. Nathan swapped position with Niall a couple of times and the two ran nose to tail, until a big moment on the penultimate lap gave Niall a little breathing space. All appeared to be lost, but then the NB47 machine started running out of fuel a few corners from home on the final lap, the team having fuelled the car light anticipating at least a lap of safety car/code 60 running in the 40 minute race!
Unbelievable stuff, Nathan took the lead again and crossed the line for the win. ????
The second Slicks race followed, and Nathan did well to avoid a spinning Mosler at turn 1. He managed to pick off a few faster cars and was on for a top 6 overall result before another ABS issue saw a big lock-up on the penultimate lap, costing him two positions. Another class win though to round out the weekend.
Great weekend of racing!
