Race report from Oulton:
Pole, a win, and a P2 in the BMW Championship at Oulton Park on Saturday! ????????
Great start to the day with our fastest ever lap of Oulton (a 1:42’1), with more time left in it after a couple of mistakes.
For race one, we knew the start would be absolutely critical as it’s so hard to overtake at Oulton. We also knew that it would be difficult to keep the lead, as this weekend was standing starts which our car always struggles with due to the tall first gear and tiny clutch. But we just about managed to retain the lead after a bit of a send into turn one (two wheels on the grass ????). From there, it was about managing the gap back to Niall Bradley in P2, and making sure we didn’t fluff a safety car restart. Good win ????.
Race two didn’t go quite to plan, after a poor start saw Niall take the lead into turn one. We were harassing him but the car was beginning to overheat… After a red flag, another standing start gave us another opportunity, but an even worse getaway! P4 after turn one, but managed to squeeze back past Jason West and Raj Yeomans in successive corners. The hunt was on to get past Niall for the win, but every time we got under his bumper the engine temps would rise. Eventually the car went into a sort of limp mode to protect the engine and bring the temps back under control, which meant we had to settle for second. ????
Still, a fantastic day’s racing with some intense battles up and down the field, and some brilliant driving too. Massive congrats to @bradley_niall / @nb47__racing___ who sealed the championship this weekend, very well deserved. ????
Silverstone next, looking forward to it!
