Epic weekend at Spa with the Classic Sport Car Club in the books.
Qualifying was chaotic with so many cars on the grid, but we secured pole. That came shortly after a near-miss when Nathan hit an oil patch at La Source and very nearly hit the barriers (the GT4 Merc was not so lucky when he followed us into the oil shortly after the DigiPlat M3 went off).
For race one, we knew we had pace to spare over most of the other guys as we were a couple of seconds per lap quicker in practice. Spa is an aero circuit which plays to our car’s strengths, but we needed a good start to protect our top speed weaknesses on lap one. Luckily though Nathan got away clean, and then built up a good gap in the opening period. A safety car period followed, and Nathan did a good (some might say cynical ????) restart; taking advantage of a back marker between him and Niall Bradley in P2 as we knew he wouldn’t be allowed to overtake before the line. This immediately re established our lead, and Nathan stroked it home for the win (albeit with an engine that was slightly down on power in the closing stages ????).
Race two the following day was a bit of a let-down. The engine issue was more serious than we thought, and we had to park the car after a smoky green flag lap and what appears to be a misfire in cylinder one.
But still, it was an epic race weekend. What a privilege to race at this amazing track, and spend the weekend with our friends and partners having a great time. We absolutely loved every second of it.
Can’t wait to head back to Spa soon.
